Does a company like Airbnb make mistakes on listing their prices?

Even if they made a mistake, can you imagine their in-charge wanting to pass the mistake on to their customer?

Yes, that is the kind of experience Airbnb has given me during one of these days.

Watch FULL YOUTUBE EPISODE HERE

It's my wife’s 40th birthday and we wanted to stay at a pretty nice place.

But the experience with Airbnb deeply provoked my emotions and compelled me to talk.

How would you handle this situation?

In this episode you will take away many promising insights as below

o   Should businesses prioritize good principles over profit?

o   Do great products or better offers matter if values and principles are compromised?

Quotes from the episode:

·       You can have a better offer or great product but a really shitty person or business formula or system or standard that doesn't care about values and principles is no good at all. Great products are elsewhere as well

·       When you're choosing dollar over principle with a first time customer; that just makes his head turn away, may be forever

·       Taking responsibility, owning a mistake: what a blessing it is? What level of freedom and excitement comes along!

He has also worked at Ryder System, where he participated in a leveraged buyout of the truck rental unit, and began his career in the investment banking department at Morgan Stanley.

Bill Britton wanted to be financially independent even as a young 10 year old...

He’s cleaned most toilets than most maids have ever cleaned in their life...

He has done more trashy house work and low-level jobs...

All those jobs did not break Bill but built him.

He did not attend the best school nor was he in the best grades. But when he went to school, he told himself that he was going to be the best.

So, he graduated as first of his class. He was focused. First couple of years in college was not fun but he knew what he wanted to do and where he wanted to be.

He later went to Wall Street and did some good work which allowed him to go to a really good grad school and it just gave the opportunity to do what he wanted to do.

Today, Bill is not interested in doing 2 billion dollar deals of Golden Sachs which are relatively easy but he’s doing 20, 30, 40 or 100 million dollar deals which are changing people’s lives

John Ply sold his company Insight Beverages at multiple 9 figures.

Because, when he started his company with 1 employee, he had only one goal in mind: ‘Be the best, instead of being the biggest’, which they achieved. Every client of theirs told them that. All leading chains in the country bought from them because they’re the best.

But his beginnings were low.

Watch FULL YOUTUBE INTERVIEW HERE

John’s parents could not afford private school— his three older brothers and sisters went to public school because it’s free. In fact, John saw tears in the eyes of his mother when she did not have 75 cents to pay for the newspaper. His dad was a butcher and worked two jobs to make ends meet.

Though his parents didn’t have the money, they gave them lots of love.

John graduated in Finance from Indiana University out of scholarship.

He started his career as inventory controller but grew up become the president of the company all within 1 year. And he was just shy of 24 at the time.

When he started his own company, he made sure the employees were paid well and treated well. After the initial struggles, the company grew in leaps and bounds: 1.8 million a year to 4 million a year to 15 million a year to 33 million a year in sales.

John wrote an amazing book ‘You Can Be the Best: Life Lessons from the Butcher and the Businessman.

In this episode you will take away many promising insights (plus many more):

-What true entrepreneurship is

-How to treat employees as an owner

-Why being the best is better than being the biggest

-What good parenting is

-How doing good pays back

-Why and how you should always be growing as a human being

Inspirational quotes from the episode

-If you can't give up that comfortable job that has a lot of benefits and all the other stuff, you cannot start a company

-Employees will jump through hoops for you when you pay them well and you treat them equally

-You may never be the biggest but you can be the best

-Money doesn't buy happiness, it buys a lot of comfort; in many instances money can buy a lot pain and grief

-All that my dad ever talked about was: how blessed he was, how happy he was, how grateful he was, and how content he was

-To do good is the only reason we are here on earth and you can take those words into so many places of your life

-Do good for others, it'll come back not tenfold; it comes back many many more times than tenfold, I'm a walking proof of that

-You should always be looking for ways for growing as a human being

“Did you allow some sort of concrete to set in to you, where then you became fixed and you been happy with you being fixed for so long?”

Watch FULL EPISODE INTERVIEW HERE

You see in the real world where we've got pavements and roadways and things that we drive on, when they start to rot, get some cracks because of a huge emergence of new people into the city, people expand these roadways because it doesn't make logistical sense anymore.

People take them down and expand them and make them better.

One of the most infamous corners in Las Vegas, the exit ramp of Tropicana and the I-15 in Las Vegas which has been here since ages is going through a huge overhaul.

They’re taking down the exit ramp and building out a new road. They're expanding it and it's quite fascinating.

In your own life, are you willing to put yourself under construction?

Rather than being a permanent fixture, are you always evolving, always expanding, and fixing your roadways, the little cracks, the little holes here and there.

Are you always making it better?

In this episode you will take away many promising insights as below

Importance of having a flexible expanding and evolving mind set, how watching constructions can teach us to grow ourselves, what perpetually putting ourselves in uncomfortable situations makes us.

Interesting Quotes from the episode:

-Did you allow some sort of concrete to set in where you became fixed and you been happy with you being fixed for so long?

-Internally, your beliefs, your mentality, how you see the world: is it just solid and fixed?

-Are you willing to put yourself under construction and taking that step further, are you willing to stay under construction?

-Rather than being a permanent fixture, your new ‘norm’ is like: I'm always evolving, I'm always expanding, I'm always fixing my roadways, I'm always fixing the little cracks, the little holes here. I'm always making it better

-Because you've decided that the new ’norm’ is slightly different: it's a perpetual state of putting yourself in uncomfortable situations

-You're ready for the now new ‘norm', more uncomfortable situations and because of that you've reinvented yourself

We just finished up the Super Bowl here in Las Vegas and it was all a madness experience for people who came.

The festivities were large and charged. Arguably one of the best experiences of the time spent here for the full week or week plus of what was going on here in Vegas.

My friend who's the chief marketing officer of Resorts World and he said it was the busiest time ever in his 20 years of being in Vegas.

Watch FULL YOUTUBE EPISODE HERE

What made this Super bowl so special?

Unlike the NFL or Formula 1, they made it a full Fan Experience: they were committed to integrating the fans and the people with every stop that they possibly could around town, so that the kids, the moms, the dads, the brothers, the sisters could all be a part of something.

What a fascinating picture that paints?

There was a magnificent appeal to the greater people to be a part of something special and meet their favorite stars, go to one part of the town and engage in this activity and then go down here and throw a football, and then go to a concert that night.

But the real question for you is: What is ‘Your Super Bowl’?

In this episode I’m gonna through intriguing questions that would help you reach success in business and in life:

-What is ‘Your Super Bowl’?

-What are you working for? What is going to be the ‘Super Bowl’ for you? Have you defined that for yourself?

-What playing field are you on? Do you know what you're doing on this playing field? Do you have the Playbook? Do you have the rule book?

Inspirational Quotes from the episode:

-In business and in life, a goal not as defined as it is, unlike in sports like as in a super bowl

-Did you hit the glory of where you potentially could be in your life which you had defined to be ‘Your Superbowl’?

-Lot of us haven't really thought of yet to figure out within what context are we playing the game of Life

-We have not thought of what context are we living through and figuring out how to operate in a system

-We have not thought of the boundaries/ limits of a place that allows us to do our best

-In business, it's actually much more muddled than you would think when it comes to playing football

This was a good ball bustin' conversation! And loaded with tremendous wisdom. Big Bob and I had fun!

Bob’s best year in business did about 50 million dollars.

His business also won awards ‘Small business of the Year’ from the greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, ‘The Blue Chip Initiative’ from the US Chamber of Commerce, ‘Ernst and Young’ finalist for Entrepreneur of the year.

But Bob did not start that business with a million dollars cash.

It was a just $15,000 startup.

Watch FULL YOUTUBE INTERVIEW HERE

Because Big Bob took time to work and build a business around the brilliant idea that struck him one day.

He didn’t like the carpet in his house when he got married to a girl he fell in love with. Just then he moved into Kansas city and bought a new house. When he wanted to get rid of the old carpet, he put a 3 line classified Ad which got an overwhelming response.

In came his brilliant idea to sell used carpets.

Bob founded 'Big Bob's used carpet stores' and quit his full time job in a few months.

Soon they started opening more stores. They licensed the idea, monetized the licensing, and franchised the idea.

Most of the people he sold franchises to were more successful than he was, made more money than he made. But he was doing something for them they couldn't do for themselves and they recognized it and saw the value. But those who thought they were more successful made more money and smarter than he was and had all the answers he'd say 'Sorry! this is not for you'

Big Bob had stores from Anchorage to Boston, Winnipeg to Corpus. They've opened between 105 to 110 stores over 40 years. Their best year did about 50 million dollars.

In this episode you will take away many promising insights as below

-Entrepreneurial journey of Bob: successes he had and the great big companies he built, the twists and turns

-What are those success stories or what are the things that Bob did that helped be more successful.  What are some of those hours and days and weeks and months like where it was the hardest

-What is lose-lose negotiation and an example of it

-What is Bob’s approach in negotiations. What did Bob do for a vendor to give him 20 to 35% discount when the norm is just 5%.

-How does one think that ‘Almost everything is negotiable if asked in the right way’

-Is manipulation always ugly?

-Beginner Entrepreneur’s work week and life style. How did Bob keep going during those trying entrepreneur’s moments.

-Perspective of Bob on 40 to 45 year olds who think they’re late and giving up on themselves and having a hard time because they think didn’t fulfill their potential.

-Bob’s advice on secret to success

-Chicken or Egg first: Is it get revenue first before you hire people or hire people first to get the revenue?

-Why do people reject sales so much on a more macro level, why do normal humans hate doing sales

-How are people buying some products without the presence of a sales person trying to influence their decisions

-Advice to Entrepreneurs who do not like sales and refuse to sell

-What is Manny's natural gift according to Bob

-Side businesses Bob is involved in

Inspirational Quotes from the Episode:

-Being an entrepreneur is not a 40-hour work week. It is probably a 60 to 80 hour work week. It’s cutting pay, it’s cutting benefits. You’re the one who has to clean the bathrooms you're the one who has to do the dirtiest nastiest jobs until it monetizes. In the beginning, you're the first one in, last one to leave and you do not make a big paycheck

-A great idea might make you one or two or 5% more money but avoiding a great mistake could save your whole business

-Addressing negatives is probably one of the best ways to ensure lack of failure

-In entrepreneurship, one of the first things you do is read contracts right, don't assume

-A lot of things in life are non-negotiable. But in the things that are negotiable in life, lose-lose is the best

-It can't always be about you

-Almost everything is negotiable if you ask the right way

-Manipulation is ugly if you're taking advantage of somebody for your own benefit but if you're manipulating a situation where both people benefit, manipulation is okay

-80% of new startup businesses fail

-Fear of failure was my great motivation at the beginning. Fear of not fulfilling to the potential was my next motivation

-Working hard and getting lucky are the keys to success

-Building a business isn't linear, it's leverage. You have to leverage the energies of the people around you

-If you're maxed out on time you're going to be maxed out on potential. So the answer is, how do I free up my time to free up my potential

"Moment's change lives."

Yes.

His mom was driving the car when a call comes over the radio about Kennedy's assassination. She pulled the car to the side of the road and started to cry.

That was the moment when George Chanos decided to become an attorney. Yes, he went on to become Nevada's 31st attorney general. As an attorney general he represented 3 million people, and wanted to represent 30 million.

Watch FULL YOUTUBE INTERVIEW HERE

In 2012 George Chanos had a heart attack which sent him on a whole new direction. He wanted to prepare his 15 year old daughter for her future. So, he began writing her a letter which eventually evolved into his first book ‘Seize Your Destiny: A Road Map to Success’.

Then he realized that the world he had lived in was not the world that his daughter was going to live in— she was going to live in the next 30 to 50 years. So he began doing research into the future and what he saw amazed him, which became his second book: ‘Millennial Samurai: A Mindset for the 21st century’ to educate her and his nephews and nieces and other people.

He has also been called a futurist and a visionary. He’s an author, speaker, and mentor.

George strongly believes: the next 5 years is going to be highly disruptive. The country that has dominated Artificial Intelligence will dominate the world.

The technological revolution will impact every area of human endeavor.

He founded Uvolution for people who want to make the most of their one and only life, while avoiding predatory programs that overpromise and under deliver.

Important Quotes from the Episode:

-Aristotle once said: ‘the man who thinks he knows everything knows nothing at all’

-The first stage of wisdom is knowing and recognizing how little you know

-To think that you have some insight or some knowledge that is truth is just a supreme kind of example of ego

-Our brains are filled with a lot of misinformation, lot of biases, a lot of things that we have been exposed to throughout our lives

-Alvin Toffler said the illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, it will be those who cannot learn unlearn and relearn, importantly unlearn

-You have to get that garbage out of your head

-People don't even recognize that they don't even have the capacity or the intelligence to recognize their own limitations

-War and conflict is not the answer going forward

-Why can't we live and let Live

-We can clothe, feed and house our massive 7.5 billion population through the use of AI and advanced technology if and only if we don't kill each other first

-Now is the best time to create a lot of content.

-If you put the work in, enjoy doing it, try to master it and stick with it; something will come out of it

-I invest not only in companies but also in people; when I make those big investments, it also helps me grow

-Some people go on these extravagant vacations and some buy nice new cars, but I make investments

-You can get creative on utilizing capital, even if it’s not your own capital to get the things that you want

Real estate investor Ashley Kehr started investing in real estate without cash in hand.

She brought onto the table her previous learning experiences.

She credits much of her success to the use of partners on real estate deals and creative financing.

Her background in accounting helped understand the nuances in business and real estate.

She purchased her first rental property in 2014 and since then has grown her buy and hold portfolio to over 30 units. She’s experienced in residential and commercial properties.

Currently she is the host of ‘The Real Estate Rookie Podcast’. She’s also the author of couple of books on real estate: Real Estate Rookie, Real Estate Partnerships. Her team runs a range of software tools that help real estate investors do the math and take wise decisions.

Ashley outsources property management and spends her time educating new investors and finding deals to BRRRR.

- Importance of accounting to become a successful real estate investor. What should one do to start to get better at accounting if they don't have any sort of education around it?

- About a real estate and asset bookkeeping software that’s simplified and easy to use for anyone who is not good in accounting

- When you want to invest in real estate, what are the available options to get the financing so that you don't have to find a cash partner?

- What are the requirements for someone to get an investment loan from a bank

- Software that helps to calculate and do the analysis before you start investing in real estate

- How can someone position himself to be an equal in a partnership where he has no cash to invest

- Four puzzle pieces as the reasons why people usually don't get started

- What does it actually mean when somebody says 'you got to do the work'? What kind of work can one expect to be doing in real estate partnerships?

- What does ‘Always on the Grow’ mean to Ashley?

Few Inspirational Quotes from the Episode

You can grow and scale your business but it's not going to be as successful as it could be if you're not growing yourself personally

·       Make sure you're not just trying to grow and scale your business to have that 10 billion portfolio or to have a jet plane but make sure that you're growing personally

·       For your first or your first several deals, it is worth giving up a little something just to get started to show your worth, to prove it to someone

·       Don't get too bent up on what's fair, what's the best percentage because some percentage is usually better than no percentage if you're not even going to do the deal

·       Four puzzle pieces as the reason people usually don't get started: No money, No time, No experience or knowledge, No courage

·       If you are struggling to get started, the best thing you can do is to take action even if that action is analyzing one deal a day

“How can you become a non-negotiable utility or a staple in your workplace that they will refuse to ever sell off your services or go to anybody else?”

Yes, you can become such an essential entity that they prefer to cut off a body part rather than removing you.

Because that is what Stephen Pierce became to be after all his humble beginnings.

He’s helped me more than anybody else on the planet with my skills development and in becoming a man of all those great things I'm known for and so grateful for.

Since more than two decades, Stephen is giving more life to people with his new perspectives, inspirational messages and methods to impact you to think and act differently to produce the results you desire.

He made millions from doing online marketing and public speaking and has been seen on NBC News, FOX News, ABC, CBS, Daystar, The Tom Joyner Morning Show and Black Enterprise.

But, many years ago Stephen was kicked out of high school. He was bankrupt, shot on the streets and homeless. From there he bounced back to being a fighter of faith, thriving and leading from the front lines of his industry.

Now, as a public speaker Stephen Pierce shared the stage with Tony Robbins, Drew Brees, Chris Gardner, Michael Phelps, Steve Forbes, Rick Belluzzo, Lou Holtz, Terry Bradshaw, and many others.

He is no stranger to obstacles, challenges, and threats. Stephen keeps his loins girded with truth. No matter the odds and no matter the cost, he continues to skillfully help others sculpt a more meaningful and memorable life of success.

In this episode you will take away many promising insights as below:

  • What and how to become the one thing that remains a constant demand regardless of the economic environment, that thing cannot be ignored irrespective of the changes in the economy.
  • What would anyone actually do to earn that respect or that position from their customer so that they become a necessary utility to their business or to their life
  • How to deal with people to go past their personality and know their character
  • How would you instruct somebody to improve when their true character is exposed when they’re put under pressure

Few Quotes from the Episode

  • People tend to use the state of the economy for the reason to do something or not to do something, so there's going to always be something.
  • It doesn't matter what the state of the economy is, as a sales pro you should hold people's attention long enough to get the message across
  • What can you say or do or demonstrate within 8 seconds to get people hooked for another 8 seconds, then get them hooked for another 8 seconds
  • Not only are we in an attrition economy but we're in a scrolling society: people are scrolling away
  • As a sales person you have to shake up the satisfaction, contentment and comfort that people are in for not doing a deal
  • As a sales person, you need to be more concerned about the client sincerely; not just about your pockets, your own personal scoreboard, your own personal commissions
  • Question is: How do we not just become an option or a service provider but a necessary utility to their business or to their life regardless of what changes
  • Starting point to become that necessary utility is to start asking your customer questions

Our family’s philosophy is: Always on the GROW

In the recent past, we have done a lot of thinking in determining our core values and principles and what we stand for.

We spent hours thinking through how we want to conduct ourselves as a family, and as individuals.

In this episode, I’m going to lay down the formula that I have tested out in my own personal life.

Quotes:

- We wanted to start controlling our lives in a way where it’s turning us into people we wanted to see ourselves as today and in the future. By reconciling who we were in the past: what decisions we weren’t making, what expectations we had of ourselves and weren’t following

- Who do you want your son/ daughter to look up to as they’re watching you evolving in life? What kind of standard do you set there?

- If you don’t set the standards early on, it’s really hard to set them later on down life

- Our family’s philosophy is Always on the GROW

- I realized that I was more consistent this year than my previous year

Jan 18, 2024

These days, I literally have to work just 3 to 4 days a month to make multiple 6-figures a year.

However, a decade ago, I found it very hard to accomplish the things that I wanted to accomplish.

Reason: partying, drinking, doing drugs, gambling, going out every night were my top priority. Though it seemed like those experiences are full, other parts of me said: there’s no direction. I was extremely complacent.

I was building businesses and restaurants but focus and concentration were fully absent.

This went on for a decade. Till the day I decided to become sober.

But when I decided to go sober, first thing I did was to ask myself ’why is this behavior taking place?

Learn my thoughts and recreation ideas here.

In this episode you will take away 3 promising insights (plus many more)

- Why is it important for any of us to reinvent ourselves?

- How did I start to make the change happen?

- Open challenge to become the next version of you

Important Quotes from the episode

Just because you had the vision, the want, and the desire to go out do some incredible things; doesn’t mean that you had the level of detail needed in order to execute at a very high level.

Because partying, drinking, doing drugs, gambling, going out every night were my priority; it was very hard for me to accomplish the things I actually wanted to accomplish.

I’ve completely recreated myself in so many ways

We need to ask ourselves, ‘Is this all that I was put here to do?’

Variables change, mentalities change, businesses evolve; everything is moving at a speed and at a rate.

Because there’s so much available to us, it confuses us and distracts us from doing the things we’re wanted/supposed to do

I literally have to work 3 to 4 days a month and make multiple 6-figures, however, I realized that’s not the standard for me to be known for, internally with myself.

Because I understand the change process so much; I know what people are capable of, I know what the possibility is

We need more people to rise up against the challenges that we’re facing on a big scale

He was gifted with a blessed childhood because of his parents — his dad was his best friend, mentor and hero.

He strongly believes, ‘Nepotism is a good word if you can use relationships to carve your own path and do your own thing’.

Today, Richard Silverman is a seasoned professional with over 35 years of experience in various industries. He has a remarkable career trajectory in hospitality, food and beverage, events, sports, entertainment, digital, and specialty retail.

After graduation, Silverman initially entered the entertainment industry, managing artists like George Michael, Prince, and collaborating with prominent songwriters.

He introduced innovative concepts such as Briscola, the first-ever Italian restaurant under the Charlie Palmer banner, Rim Asian Bistro, Xtreme Sports Bar and Grill, The Beach, The Buffet, and The High Roller Lounge, many of which remain successful today.

In recent years, he has consulted with international chefs to bring Michelin Star awarded restaurant concepts to Las Vegas and launched an artisan super premium distilled spirits line of XO Rums.

His diverse portfolio includes producing feature films and television projects, notably the EDM-themed film "We Are Your Friends" and the upcoming film "My Dead Friend Zoe," addressing veteran PTSD and suicide issues.
